Description
The Senior Research Scientist performs basic observational and experimental scientific investigation in order to acquire new knowledge and to guide business decisions particularly focused on issues of health equity among other topics. The Senior Research Scientist's work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
Responsibilities
The Senior Research Scientist provides expertise around study design, research methodology, analyses and interpretation of results in collaboration with study team members, with specific focus on health equity and health services research. For retrospective data analyses (e.g. healthcare administrative claims), the Senior Research Scientist will complete data extraction from multiple tables in a database(s) and create tabular and graphical displays of study data and analytic results to facilitate interpretations. For studies involving primary data collection, the Senior Research Scientist will manage, clean, and analyze data as appropriate. Key research questions related to health equity and other topics in health services research will be defined and addressed in collaboration with other research team members. For all studies, the Senior Research Scientist contributes to study design, study protocols and statistical analysis plans, technical reports, executive summaries, and authors or co-authors research results in peer reviewed publications and through presentations at appropriate scientific conferences and forums. The Senior Research Scientist exercises considerable latitude and works without direction but collaborates with study team members and other peers in order to produce the highest quality work possible.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree or Doctorate in Health Services Research, Public Health, Health Policy, Health Economics or related field
3 or more years of technical research/analysis experience
Knowledge of the healthcare system and issues related to health equity
Strong interest in health equity research
Experience with studies using large datasets, particularly administrative healthcare claims data
Experience with data management and statistical analysis using SAS
Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Preferred Qualifications
PhD (or equivalent) in Health Services Research, Public Health, Health Policy, Health Economics or related field
Publication of prior studies in peer reviewed journals
Experience with health equity-focused research
Experience with R and/or Python in addition to experience with SAS .
