This exciting position is responsible for the strategic planning and execution of a new initiative aiming to revolutionize the operating room hardware and software enabling new technologies that provide insight of the surgery process to prevent errors, increase efficacy and efficiency. You will work with the Medtronic Technology Strategy and Innovation team and partners across Medtronic to generate Operating Room system architecture, from inception through commercial launch and beyond.

**A Day in the Life**
As the surgical System Architect, you will be a leader of innovation, providing high level definition of the next generation system of systems for Medtronics Surgery Platform. You will work closely with the marketing and R&D development teams to define systems architecture, establish critical performance requirements, and create test methods for integrated systems that implement our future product roadmap. You will collaborate across the larger program team to manage and influence the high-level design and interconnectivity of surgical tools , as well as, technology needed for advanced analytics and simulation. This position is a leadership focused role and a critical member of our top-level architecture team.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects.
Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.
Plans and executes laboratory research.
Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences.
May participate in development of patent applications.
May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience
**Nice to Have**
Bachelors Degree in in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, Medical Sciences or related field (Degree in system engineering highly preferred)
Minimum of 15 years experience in relevant work including 5 years experience in leading multi-disciplinary research teams.
Experience leading architecture definition for platforms or programs with strong emphasis on software architecture, data and Analytics and at least one of the following: IoT data, video processing, AI/ML
Experience defining architectures using one or more of the following: microservices, Cloud solutions, data processing frameworks
Experience with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate, influence, and inspire others around a vision of the future
Well-developed collaboration skills with proven track record of interfacing between multiple groups and functions (R&D, QA, operations, marketing, regulatory, and external experts)
Ability to manage and collaborate with leaders and teams across multiple geographies and different company function
Ability to communicate and manage collaboration with external strategic technology partners
A proven leader of innovation on multiple, multidisciplinary projects in a regulated industry (medical device products involving low latency edge computing highly preferred)
Experience developing and documenting system architectures for complex medical device systems
Patient centric mindset with a strong desire to improve clinical outcomes
Working experience to define system of system with system and sub-system requirements
Experience with following processes and creating documentation within a quality management system, including design descriptions, risk management, requirements, and verification / validation.
Experience working with real-time operating systems
Experience with Software as Medical device and/or software regulation
Experience working with Hospital IT systems including integrations with PACS and EMR solutions
Experience in people management and technology evaluation
Advanced Degree in in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, Medical Sciences or related field
