The Senior Population Health Data Scientist is a subject matter expert who leverages data science and knowledge of health care data to develop data-driven solutions focused on improving population health. The Senior Population Health Data Scientist builds predictive models, experimental designs and web analytics, machine learning algorithm using advance technologies to support Population Health initiatives. He or she works closely with data developers and solution architects to establish the entire project life cycle; designing data, machine learning solution, testing and roll-out in an Azure cloud environment. The Senior Population Health Data Scientist exhibits a strong curiosity about data and excels at harvesting insights from highly complex data across multiple data sources. The Senior Population Health Data Scientist engages key stakeholders in reviewing population health data including but not limited to health outcomes, clinical performance, behavioral health, substance use, social determinants, disparities of care, utilization, cost, and margin population management. The person in this senior role serves as a mentor and coach for skills development for junior staff. The audience for this position's work is the Providence St. Joseph Health system caregivers.
**In this position you will have the following responsibilities:**
Champions the use of data science to drive change.
Builds impactful and thoughtful data-driven solutions for business needs by collaborating with members of the Clinical, Business, Analytics and development teams on project planning, design, and execution.
Executes advanced analytics projects and presents recommendations for operational changes and refinement of population health strategies.
Uses statistical and high-performance machine learning (ML) techniques to train, evaluate and deploy models to address business objectives for gaining insights into patient and population behavior, preferences, or utilization patterns.
Develops and delivers presentations to communicate findings to technical and non-technical leadership teams, workgroups, and business units to inform next steps. Uses creativity to visualize complex data into an easy to understand format for interpretation. Utilizes good sensibility in visual storytelling.
Develops end-to-end machine learning lifecycles at scale with focus on automation, implementation, operationalization and documentation.
Stays abreath of the cutting-edge data science technologies and analytic techniques.
Collaborates with Population Health Informatics, Healthcare Intelligence, Clinical Informatics, Epic, Regional Analytic Experts, and others as needed.
Promotes best practices for ML code control and deployments using Azure DevOps.
Serves as a mentor and coach for data science junior staff.
**Qualifications:**
**Required qualifications for this position include:**
Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Engineering, Mathematics, Biostatics, Epidemiology, Business, Data Science, Social Work, or related field.
6 years equivalent of 6 or more years of relevant data analysis or analytics experience.
6 years equivalent of 6 years experience with big data, database query and analysis languages (e.g. Python, PySpark, SQL, Snowflake SQL, R, Scala, SAS, Azure DataBricks) and data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) required.
6 years equivalent of six or more years of experience applying advanced statistical concepts, machine learning techniques, forecasting and other methods to solve complex problems using structured and unstructured data.
**Preferred qualifications for this position include:**
Master's Degree in Healthcare, Engineering, Mathematics, Biostatics, Epidemiology, Business, Data Science, Social Work, or related field.
Certification in programming or data mining within 3 years of hire.
