Summary

The Discovery Biotherapeutics group at Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a highly motivated and innovative principal scientist with demonstrated expertise in biologics drug discovery to join our binder generation group. The successful candidate is expected to provide scientific and technical leadership from target discovery to pharmacology screening assays in supporting immuno-oncology and Immunology/cardiovascular/fibrosis projects in our R&ED pipeline. Expertise in immunization or display platforms, with antibody and protein structure-function screening is highly desired. A track record in biochemical or high-throughput screening assay development, antibody function, immunological and effector activity screening will be highly valued. In addition, this position requires experience in mammalian cell culture, complex flow cytometry, and sorting technologies. Track record of demonstrating creativity, taking initiative and ability in influencing at all levels. The successful candidate will have leadership opportunities and participate in joint project teams and technology development teams to create novel approaches to discover and optimize antibody-based biologics. The candidate should be able to thrive in a highly dynamic, supportive, yet independently thinking culture. Also, expectations of being pragmatic, comfortable with complex science and procedures, as well as practical and operationally experienced. The candidate needs to be highly effective in collaborating and managing internal team members and external partners.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:


Provide scientific/technical expertise to antibody discovery & lead identification function.

Leadership across functions to develop state-of-art Next-Gen bispecific antibody platforms and targeting.

Initiate and champion new biologics projects.

Provide scientific leadership to R&D project teams. Create, implement, and prioritize innovative ideas, recognize risk and propose mitigation or contingency plans.

Supervise staff and provide guidance to other laboratory personnel in a matrix structure. Manage multiple antibody/binder discovery processes – provide screening assay designs, primary in vitro pharmacology, and in vitro toxicology support for lead molecules.

Present data and updates to the project teams or thematic centers

When available, authorship of section reports and data management to support IND/CTA filings

Enable and maintain our biologics drug discovery operations: identify and manage research collaborations/CROs, collaborate with other stakeholders across Discovery Biotherapeutics sites.


Skills/Knowledge Required:


Ph.D. in molecular biology, immunology, or related fields and at least 8 years pharmaceutical industry experience in biologics discovery

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Subject matter expertise in antibody discovery systems, human and rodent immunology, and primary cell screening.

A track record in demonstrating creativity by peer-reviewed publications or patents.
