Fishery Biologist Jobs description
Fishery biologists use their scientific knowledge of fishery biology to develop and conserve fishery resources, evaluate impact of construction on fishery resources and their habitat, and manage aquatic resources in their natural habitat with the help of different systems.The main responsibility of a fishery biologist is to conserve, manage and restore fish populations and to acquire biological and environmental data for use in technical studies and fisheries management programs. Other responsibilities include studying fish population and mortality, developing maintenance and restorative plans for fisheries and their habitat, monitoring commercial fisheries and providing technical support to aquatic resources projects. A fishery biologist may also have to develop and review technical reports and give presentations regarding same.
Minimum qualification required for a fishery biologist job is a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with specialization in aquatic subjects or related field, from an accredited college or university. Senior positions may require a master’s degree. Previous specialized experience may be preferred. Other desirable skills for a fishery biologist job are computer literacy, knowledge of technical writing protocols, good oral and written communication, and mathematical and statistical ability.
