Postdoctoral Statistical Geneticist
About the Role
We are seeking a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Statistical Geneticist to join the
CardioGenomics multidisciplinary team
and study gene-lifestyle interactions in metabolic diseases. The position is funded by a four-year grant from the National Institutes of Health (USA).
About You
The successful candidate will be expected to have a PhD degree in statistics or biostatistics, with excellent knowledge and experience with statistical methods and working with large human genetic and ‘omics datasets. Key attributes of the successful candidate should include: evidence of prior research productivity, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good organisation, self-motivation and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
Within the Centre for Clinical Pharmacology there are
several research activities
in this team.
The ongoing projects apply genetic and genomic approaches to identify genes for hypertension, sudden cardiac death and heart failure. Downstream analyses include studies of candidate genes using both “in vitro” and “in vivo” models and application of polygenic risk scores and Mendelian randomisation, approaches that improve our understanding of disease mechanisms. We are also developing enhanced risk prediction models and generating genetically informed new therapeutic targets.
